Kwikset has announced the Aura Reach, its latest smart lock, launching at CES 2026 and expanding the company’s growing Matter enabled lineup. Designed to look and install like a traditional deadbolt, Aura Reach combines Bluetooth and Matter over Thread to offer broad smart home compatibility, including support for Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings.
Releasing in early 2026, the Aura Reach features a familiar exterior design with a physical keyway and an integrated touch keypad. The keypad automatically illuminates as a user approaches, making it easier to enter codes in low light conditions. Kwikset says the goal is to offer modern smart features without straying too far from the expectations of a conventional door lock.
Keypad Design and Security Features
The lock includes a backlit touch keypad with a fingerprint resistant matte surface and physical button feedback. A proximity based wake feature activates the keypad lighting as the user reaches for the lock, helping speed up code entry and reduce missed inputs.
One touch locking is supported via the keypad, allowing the door to be secured with a single press when leaving. An optional auto lock feature can also be enabled, locking the door automatically after a user defined delay.
Security features include a built in tamper alarm that activates if interference is detected. When the user is nearby, alerts are delivered through the Kwikset app, and all tamper events are logged for later review.
Matter over Thread and Bluetooth Control
Aura Reach uses Matter over Thread for day to day smart home integration, allowing it to function locally within supported ecosystems without relying on cloud services. Bluetooth is used for initial setup and for local control through the Kwikset app. From the app, users can create and manage up to 250 access codes, adjust lock settings, view activity history, and share access with guests.
Hands free unlocking is also supported using Bluetooth and geofencing. When enabled, the lock can automatically unlock as the user approaches the door. While this method is not as precise as Ultra Wideband based systems, Bluetooth proximity unlocking remains common across current smart locks. Kwikset also includes an optional signal range boost setting, designed to improve wireless stability and responsiveness when the lock is used within a Matter network.
Pricing and Availability
The Kwikset Aura Reach is available now in Matte Black and Satin Nickel finishes. It is priced at US$189 and sold through major retailers, including Amazon.
