After unveiling 21 new Matter compatible smart home devices last November, IKEA is extending Matter over Tread support to parts of its existing lighting range. The first updates arrive with two refreshed Varmblixt lamps shown at CES 2026, bringing smart lighting features to one of the brand’s most recognisable designs.
The Varmblixt donut lamp receives a subtle redesign alongside its new colour changing capabilities. Where the original model used a glossy surface to reflect ambient light, the smart version switches to a soft matte white finish that puts the focus firmly on the lamp’s own glow. Using the included Bilresa remote, the lamp can smoothly cycle through 12 curated preset colours selected by designer Sabine Marcelis, who was also involved in the original design.
The smart light works with Matter over Tread and this means Apple Home. The smart Varmblixt donut lamp is priced at $99.99 and is scheduled to launch in April 2026.
Joining it is the smart Varmblixt pendant lamp, this hanging version focuses on tunable white lighting rather than colour, allowing you to shift from cool daylight tones to a warm, candle like glow. It too ships with a Bilresa remote, and when paired with Ikea’s hub and app, it can be added to smart home Apple Home via Matter over Tread. The Varmblixt is priced at $149.99 and also launching in April 2026.
