Aqara Working on New U200 Smart Lock with UWB

Aqara appears to be developing a new version of its popular U200 retrofit smart lock that will include Ultra Wideband (UWB) support.

The development was first spotted in a now deleted reply to a Facebook comment, where Aqara briefly acknowledged work on a UWB enabled version of the lock. Aqara has since confirmed to me that a new product based on the U200 concept is currently in development.

Its likely, this will not be a simple upgrade or replacement keypad for the existing U200. I suspect this is because the keypad and lock are paired together at the factory as part of the device’s security model.

When asked about the timeline, Aqara did not provide an expected release date. However, the company is clearly aware of the growing demand for smarter and more seamless access technologies.

The move is also not surprising given the success Aqara has seen with the U400 smart lock, which has quickly gained attention in the smart home market. With UWB enabling more precise and secure proximity based unlocking, Aqara will likely be looking to build on that momentum with the next generation of its retrofit lock lineup.
