Announced at CES 2026 and scheduled to be available in April 2026, the IKEA IKEA VARMBLIXT LED pendant lamp with Matter Over Thread is available in EU and UK. This release is on the back of the VARMBLIXT donut shaped lamp.
The updated VARMBLIXT pendant features three frosted U shaped glass arms with integrated LED light strips that create a soft diffused glow. Like the original the design was created by designer Sabine Marcelis and aims to make the lamp a visual centrepiece above a dining table or living space.
What makes this version particularly interesting for smart home users is that it supports Matter over Thread, meaning it can connect directly to platforms like Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings without being locked into a single ecosystem.
Just like the donut shaped lamp, the pendant lamp can be controlled using the included BILRESA wireless remote or through a compatible smart home system once connected to a Thread Border Router such as a smart hub or device like Apple TV 4K or HomePod.
IKEA says the light can transition smoothly between warm and cool white tones, allowing users to adjust the atmosphere of a room depending on the time of day or activity.
The VARMBLIXT smart pendant is currently listed in the UK at £120 and Europe for €149.
