Tedee releases Matter support finally

After a long wait, Tedee is finally rolling out Matter over Thread support to its GO series smart locks. Matter support means Apple Home users can take advantage.

First reported by Matter-Smarthome.DE, The Polish company first announced this move back in July 2023. Since then, it has been delayed a few times, with Tedee saying it wanted to make sure the update was stable, future ready, and properly integrated before releasing it. While that caution meant other brands beat them to market with Matter enabled locks, Tedee owners can now benefit from a free software update that brings their existing hardware up to speed.

The update covers the Tedee GO, GO2, and GO2 Aluminium models. Support is being introduced gradually, starting with around 20 percent of users in the first wave. The wider rollout will follow soon after, with full availability expected by the end of February 2026. For most users, the new firmware will install automatically, though it can also be triggered manually in the Tedee app.

To take advantage of Matter over Thread, users will need the latest firmware on their lock and a Thread Border Router in their home. Once updated, the locks can connect directly to major Matter platforms including Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, and now Apple Home.

That Apple Home integration is a notable shift. Previously, Tedee locks could only be controlled via Siri shortcuts, which was more of a workaround than full native support. With Matter running locally over Thread, the need for cloud based connections to Alexa and Google is also removed, resulting in a more responsive and resilient setup.

For existing Tedee GO owners, it is a meaningful upgrade that brings their lock firmly into the modern smart home ecosystem without needing to buy new hardware.
