IKEA GRILLPLATS and TOFSMYGGA available with Matter over Thread support

At the back end of 2025, IKEA announced 20 new Matter products and some have already arrived in stores, namely the BILRESA and KAJPLATS. Now IKEA has quietly listed two new smart plugs: GRILLPLATS and TOFSMYGGA, both built with Matter over Thread and designed to work seamlessly inside Apple Home.

Update – Also listed on France and US stores, see below

This is an interesting development as IKEA had originally said we should start seeing both devices in stores starting April 2026. But it appears that is changing

GRILLPLATS is an indoor smart plug with energy monitoring, with a maximum output power of 3,680 watts / 16 amps. IKEA will sell the GRILLPLATS in a single unit or in a combo with the BILRESA remote.

TOFSMYGGA is the outdoor-rated version, built for garden appliances, outdoor lighting, and seasonal setups.

Matter Over Thread

Because they use Matter over Thread, these plugs will Connect directly to Apple Home, Google, and SmartThings without needing IKEA’s DIRIGERA hub. But you will need an existing Thread Border Router like a HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K

For Apple Home users, this this could be the most affordable, smart plugs that integrate natively into scenes and automations.

Availability

At the time of writing, both models are mainly visible on IKEA Sweden’s site but unavailable for purchase. Whereas the GRILLPLATS with BILRESA remote is now avaiable for purchase,  suggesting an initial Scandinavian rollout before wider European availability.

Pricing in the rest of Europe, UK and US will be equally as competitive and we should start seeing movement soon with availability.
