Homey has announced that it will discontinue its HomeKit Experiment, which currently allows users to expose devices connected to Homey directly to Apple Home.
The feature was originally introduced as an experimental way of bringing Homey devices into Apple’s smart home ecosystem, but Homey says there are now better ways to achieve the same thing using Matter.
Starting with Homey Pro and Homey Self-Hosted Server v13.5.1, users will no longer be able to enable the HomeKit Experiment. However, anyone who already has the feature enabled will be able to continue using it during the transition period.
That will change in March 2027, when Homey plans to remove the HomeKit Experiment completely. From that point, the integration will stop working even for users who previously had it enabled.
What Apple Home users need to do
If you currently use the HomeKit Experiment to bring your Homey devices into Apple Home, Homey recommends moving to its Matter Bridge app instead.
Matter Bridge allows compatible devices connected to Homey to be exposed to Apple Home using Matter, effectively replacing the older HomeKit integration with the newer smart home standard.
If you don’t currently use Homey’s HomeKit Experiment, there’s nothing you need to do and the change won’t affect your setup.
