Govee annouce new portable lightwall with Matter support

Govee is pushing further into immersive lighting with the launch of the Lightwall, a transportable LED display built for both indoor and outdoor use. Unlike traditional smart lights, this is designed to be a centrepiece, something you set up for events, gatherings, or creative spaces rather than leaving permanently installed.

With built in Matter support from day one, it also slots into the wider smart home conversation, including Apple Home, though as always, there are some limitations to be aware of.

Features

At the core of the Lightwall is a dense grid of 1,536 RGBIC LEDs arranged in a 32 by 48 layout. This gives it enough resolution to display detailed animations and smooth gradients, which is not something you typically see from outdoor focused lighting products. Animations run at up to 35 frames per second, helping effects look fluid rather than stuttering.

The design is clearly built around flexibility. Instead of mounting it to a wall, Govee uses a lightweight aluminium frame that can be assembled or taken down in roughly 10 to 15 minutes, and crucially, no tools are required. It is rated IP65, so it can handle dust and rain, making it suitable for gardens, patios, or temporary event setups. A carry case is included, reinforcing the idea that this is meant to move with you.

On the software side, there is plenty to work with. You get access to more than 200 preset scenes, many of which are tailored for outdoor use. Govee also includes its AI Lighting Bot 2.0, allowing you to create simple lighting effects using text prompts. If you want more control, there is a layered editor supporting up to 30 layers, alongside full access to 16 million colours through Govee’s Uni IC system.

Music sync is built in, with multiple reactive modes that adjust lighting based on sound in real time. The Lightwall can also link with other Govee products using DreamView and SceneStage, so you can create a wider, synchronised lighting setup across multiple devices.

Apple Home and Matter

The Lightwall supports Matter over WiFi, which means it can be added to platforms like Apple Home alongside Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

As with most Matter enabled lighting, what you get in Apple Home will be more limited compared to Govee’s own app. Expect basic controls such as power, brightness, colour, and inclusion in automations. The more advanced features, like layered effects, AI generated scenes, and music synchronisation, will remain within the Govee Home app.

Price and availability

The Govee Lightwall is available now in the US through Govee’s website and Amazon, priced at $449.99. At the time of writing, there is no confirmed release window for the UK or wider European markets.
