DJI ROMO Gains Matter certification

DJI appears to be moving closer to supporting the Matter smart home standard with its ROMO series after joining the Connectivity Standards Alliance just a few months ago.

For Apple Home users, this could be significant. Matter support would potentially allow DJI’s Romo robot vacuums to integrate with platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa, rather than being tied solely to DJI’s own app ecosystem. The latest development was first spotted by Ward Zhou of MatterAlpha, who reported that DJI has now received multiple Matter certifications for robot vacuum products.

The DJI ROMO appear to support the newer Matter 1.4.2 specification over WiFi, including robotic vacuum features introduced to the standard.

That could bring functions such as:

• Start and stop cleaning
• Return to dock
• Mode selection
• Status reporting
• Cross platform smart home control

A Chance for DJI to Rebuild Trust

This move could also help DJI recover some confidence lost earlier this year when its Romo robot vacuums were caught up in a security controversy.

In February, The Verge reported that a researcher was able to access data from thousands of DJI Romo vacuums, including live camera feeds, floor maps and device telemetry due to backend permission issues. DJI later said it had patched the vulnerability. So for a category of product that moves around inside private homes, mapping rooms and often carrying cameras, trust matters just as much as suction power.

Matter support could help here because the standard is designed around secure local communication and reduced dependence on vendor cloud platforms. While Matter is not a magic fix for privacy, enabling more local control would be a positive step for DJI

Why Apple Home Users Should Watch This

DJI is a major brand with strong engineering credentials in cameras, navigation and robotics. I use DJI drones, cameras and Mics in product. If it can combine that hardware expertise with proper smart home interoperability, it could become a serious challenger to brands like Roborock and ECOVACS. For now, no official launch date has been announced for Matter support, but the certifications suggest progress is real.
