Aqara has officially introduced the Smart Lock U400 at CES 2026, marking one of the most advanced consumer smart locks to date. The new deadbolt lock combines Ultra Wideband precision, Matter support, Thread connectivity, and Apple Home Key integration to deliver hands free unlocking along with Aliro support when the standard arrives in Q1.
The U400 represents Aqara’s most ambitious step into next generation smart access, positioning the front door as a presence aware entry point rather than a device that relies on apps, codes, or manual interaction.
Hands Free Unlocking Powered by Ultra Wideband
At the core of the Smart Lock U400 is Ultra Wideband technology. Unlike Bluetooth based proximity unlocking, which often struggles with reliability and accidental triggers, UWB allows the lock to understand precise distance and direction.
Using Time of Flight measurements and Angle of Arrival calculations, the U400 can determine whether an authorised user is approaching the door from outside rather than simply being nearby. This enables the door to unlock automatically as you arrive, while avoiding unwanted unlocks when you are inside your home or passing nearby.
Aqara also highlights UWB security benefits. With features such as scrambled timestamp sequence protection, the U400 is designed to resist relay attacks, a growing concern with traditional wireless unlocking methods.
Deep Integration with Apple Home and Apple Wallet
The Smart Lock U400 integrates directly with Apple Home Key, allowing iPhone and Apple Watch users to unlock their door simply by approaching. There is no need to open an app or authenticate manually. Your device can remain in your pocket or on your wrist while the door unlocks automatically.
Home keys are stored securely in Apple Wallet and shared through the Apple Home app. Household members receive access automatically, while guests can be granted time limited or recurring access.
In addition to Apple Home Key, the U400 supports NFC tap to unlock, fingerprint recognition, passcodes, voice assistants including Siri and Alexa, mobile apps, and a traditional physical key for emergencies.
Built on Matter over Thread for Cross Platform Support
The U400 is built on the Thread protocol and is fully Matter certified. This allows it to work across major smart home platforms including Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, and Home Assistant without requiring a proprietary hub.
Because it uses Thread, the lock benefits from low power consumption, fast response times, and a more reliable mesh network when paired with compatible border routers such as Apple TV 4K or HomePod.
The lock is also Aliro ready, preparing it for the upcoming cross platform digital key standard. Aqara has confirmed that Samsung Wallet support is planned for Q1 2026, allowing compatible Samsung devices to act as digital keys in the future.
Practical Hardware Features and Battery Life
The lock is rated IP65 for durability and weather resistance. and its power comes from a rechargeable lithium ion battery rated for up to six months of use per charge, depending on usage. Aqara includes a power bank option for emergency charging if the battery is depleted.
The U400 is available in four finishes including black, silver, shadow black, and satin nickel, allowing it to blend into a wide range of door styles.
