First announced at WWDC21, the new HomeKit architecture that starting rolling out as part of iOS16.2 appears to have been pulled. This update, which, according to Apple, makes the experience of using HomeKit accessories more efficient and reliable.
First spotted by MacRumors, the Home app in iOS 16.2 no longer offers the option to upgrade to the new architecture. This follows multiple reports of users having issues with HomeKit following upgrading.
As reported by several users, some people say that their HomeKit devices got stuck in the “updating” or “configuring” status. Others reported accessories went into no response. But the main reports appear to be people no longer being able to share their Home with other users.
Based on the number of DM, emails and comments on social media. It’s clear something didn’t workout with the upgrade for some users. But I didn’t run into issues with the final release of iOS 16.2 when I updated my HomeKit architecture.
Apple has not yet made any official comment on the issues or the reason behind the halting of the upgrade. But I have reached to Apple for comment and if I hear back, I will update this article.
