Apple HomeOS leaked ahead of WWDC 2021

Ahead of WWDC 2021 starting 7th June, Apple has leaked what appears to be the existence of a new OS platform, HomeOS. First spotted by developer Javier Lacort, the Apple job listing for a Senior iOS Engineer explicitly mentions homeOS on two occasions.

You’ll get to work with system engineers across Apple, learning the inner-workings of iOS, watchOS, tvOS and homeOS, and optimizing your code for performance in ways only Apple can. Come join our team and make a real difference for music lovers worldwide.

The ‌Apple Music‌ Frameworks team owns the technology stack that enables the system-integrated ‌Apple Music‌ experience on all of our mobile platforms: iOS, watchOS, and homeOS.

While HomeOS could be many things, it could be the rebranding of Apple’s current smart home framework, HomeKit. But personally I think it’s more than just a rebranding, it’s going to be a whole operating system that will power Apple’s future smart home platform.

This could also pave the way for the stuff I have been talking about for sometime now with U1 and machine learning automations.

With WWDC 2021 just around the corner now, we will hopefully see what Apple has in store for us with HomeKit. So don’t forget to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.
