At CES 2026, Signify has announced SpatialAware scenes for Philips Hue, a feature that shifts smart lighting away from simple colour assignment and toward spatial understanding. They also confirmed Apple Home support will be coming to its Hue Secure cameras, video doorbell, and contact sensors.
Until now, Hue scenes have applied colours without understanding placement. A sunset scene might use warm tones, but those colours were assigned randomly across fixtures. SpatialAware introduces intent. One side of the room can now represent the light source, while the opposite side reflects shadow and depth. The result feels natural rather than programmed.
SpatialAware relies on the Hue Bridge Pro and uses an iPhone or iPad to scan the room and map light positions. That spatial model can be updated as lights are added or moved. At launch, the feature supports around half of Hue’s Scene Gallery, focusing on nature based scenes such as lake mist, mountain breeze, and savanna sunset.
This approach closely aligns with the direction Apple home could be heading in 2026 home, which Aqara made announcements with similar intent. In December, I made a video on how Apple Home could understand space, context, and intent. SpatialAware fits that vision. It does not wait for a command. It interprets an environment.
Apple Home coming to Hue Hue Security devices
Alongside SpatialAware, Signify confirmed expanded Apple Home support for its Hue Secure cameras, video doorbell, and contact sensors. These will integrate with Apple Home in early 2026, however its unsure at this stage if this will be HomeKit Secure Video. Multi bridge migration to a single Bridge Pro is also being added, simplifying larger installations.
Philips Hue’s AI assistant has been updated and can now create automations using natural language requests, for example “wake me up at 6:45 am every day except Saturdays”. Support for additional languages is also expanding, including Dutch, German, and Spanish.
SpatialAware launches in spring 2026. Apple Home support for Hue Secure devices arrives in the first quarter of 2026.
This is not a feature about brighter lights or more colours. It is about awareness. And that is where the smart home should be heading.
