Nanoleaf has been at the forefront of the Thread charge, with the Essentials range launched back in 2020. Then more recently with the Nanoleaf Elements, shapes and lines with Thread over HomeKit support.
Back in 2020, when the Nanoleaf essentials light strip and bulbs started shipping, you needed an Apple HomePod Mini to make use of its Thread capabilities. Then, back in August, Nanoleaf enabled Thread border router capabilities in its Shapes and Elements products via a software update. Then later the Nanoleaf Lines also shipped with the same capability.
However, the Thread Border Router support only worked with its own line of products. But, that is all about to change with an announcement from Nanoleaf at CES 2022 first reported via AppleInsider. Nanoleaf will deliver an update in the first quarter of this year that will see the Nanoleaf Shapes, Elements and Lines become Thread border routers for all Thread over HomeKit devices.
That means devices from Eve, for example, such as the Eve Room, Eve Weather can all access a HomeKit Thread network via the Nanoleaf devices. Meaning you will not need a HomePod mini or the new Apple TV 4K to create a Thread network.
Nanoleaf says it is also working to support matter in its existing and future products. The first Nanoleaf product to support Matter is expected in the second half of 2022.
