Shelly is expanding its smart home lineup with the launch of the Presence Gen4, a more advanced take on occupancy sensing that moves beyond traditional motion detection. The device is now available across the UK and Europe, positioning itself as a step up from standard motion sensors for users looking to build smarter, more responsive automations.
Features
The Shelly Presence Gen4 uses mmWave radar to detect presence, meaning it can identify when someone is in a room even if they are completely still. It can monitor spaces up to 42 square metres and track up to six people simultaneously, making it far more effective in shared areas.
A key feature is zone-based detection, with support for up to ten configurable zones within a single room. This allows automations to be far more precise, such as triggering lighting only in specific areas rather than across the entire space.
Shelly also includes a real-time visualisation tool in its app, showing a live map of where presence is detected. This makes it easier to fine tune zones and improve accuracy over time.
There is also an integrated light sensor, enabling automations based on both occupancy and brightness levels. Additional controls such as adjustable sensitivity, transmission power, and movement filtering help reduce false triggers from pets or background activity.
The device is powered via USB C, so there are no batteries to manage, but it does need to be placed near a power outlet.
Apple Home and Matter
The Presence Gen4 supports Matter over WiFi, allowing it to integrate with platforms like Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home.
Connectivity also includes WiFi 6 (2.4 GHz), Bluetooth 5 LE, and Zigbee 3.0, giving it flexibility across different smart home setups.
It is worth noting this is Matter over WiFi rather than Thread, which may be less appealing for advanced users focused on low power mesh networks. However, as this is a mains powered device, this trade-off is unlikely to impact most users.

The Shelly Presence Gen4 is now available in the UK and across Europe, with listings live via Shelly and third party retailers.
