Homey has introduced Device Updates, allowing users to install firmware updates for compatible Matter, Zigbee and Z-Wave devices directly through Homey without switching to a manufacturer’s app or reconnecting a separate hub.
Keeping smart home devices updated has traditionally meant using multiple manufacturer apps. Homey’s new feature brings more of that maintenance into a single place.
Updates can be checked from More → Settings → Device Updates in the Homey Mobile App or Web App. Users can also check an individual device through its settings under Maintenance.
How Homey Device Updates work
For Zigbee and Z-Wave devices, firmware is delivered through the manufacturer’s respective Homey app, meaning support depends on the manufacturer or app developer.
IKEA, Aeotec, INNR, Niko, Inovelli, Zooz, frient, ThirdReality, EcoDim, HeatIt, Namron, amina, CTM Lyng and Nous already support Device Updates, with more expected to follow.
Matter devices work differently. Homey retrieves available firmware directly from the Connectivity Standards Alliance’s Distributed Compliance Ledger, independently of a manufacturer’s Homey app.
Which Homey systems support Device Updates?
Device Updates are available on Homey Cloud, Homey Pro (2023–2026), Homey Pro mini and Homey Self-Hosted Server. Homey Pro and Self-Hosted Server require version 13.2.0 or later, while the Homey Mobile App needs version 9.10.0 or later.
This is a useful for anyone using Homey to bring devices from several manufacturers and protocols together. Rather than simply controlling those devices from one platform, Homey can now help keep them up to date as well. You can read more at the Homey announcement here.
