Over the weekend, Bloomberg reported that Apple’s next generation Apple TV and HomePod models remain on track for launch later this year. Now, new findings uncovered by Macworld within the latest tvOS 27 beta appear to add further weight to those claims.
Code discovered within tvOS 27 suggests Apple may be preparing much bigger changes behind the scenes. Macworld found multiple references to Apple Intelligence frameworks within the beta software, despite Apple Intelligence currently being limited to supported iPhone, iPad, and Mac models. More interestingly, code linked to the HomePod setup process includes references to Apple’s next generation Siri experience powered by Apple Intelligence.
Another significant discovery is the appearance of references to Apple’s N1 wireless chip. The N1 handles WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and currently only appears in Apple’s latest iPhone and iPad hardware. None of today’s Apple TV or HomePod models include the N1 chip, making its appearance in tvOS 27 particularly notable. This could indicate that Apple is already laying the software foundations for upcoming hardware refreshes.
The discoveries align with persistent rumours that Apple is developing a new generation of AI focused home products, including a smart display often referred to as the “HomePad”, alongside refreshed Apple TV and HomePod models. While Apple has yet to officially announce any new home hardware, the growing number of software references appearing within tvOS 27 suggests the company is actively preparing for a new chapter of Apple Home products centred around Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.
For now, all eyes remain on the autumn launch window, where Apple could finally unveil the next generation of Apple TV, HomePod, and potentially its long rumoured smart home display.
