Aqara has announced a major new update for the Aqara Thermostat Hub W200, adding long requested multi sensor support, The feature arrives with firmware version 4.5.48, which is currently rolling out gradually and is expected to reach all users within the next seven days.
Once updated, users can combine multiple temperature sensors into a single “soft sensor” inside the Aqara app. This virtual sensor can either calculate the average temperature across several sensors or prioritise extreme values depending on the setup required. The feature is designed to improve temperature accuracy across larger rooms and more complex smart home layouts.
Setup is handled directly within the Aqara app by navigating to the W200’s Data Source Settings, selecting manually configured temperature mode, and then creating a linked virtual sensor from multiple physical sensors.
-
Open the W200 device page in the Aqara App, tap the three dots in the upper-right corner, and enter Data Source Settings.
-
Select the manually configured temperature option, then go to Linked Sensors.
-
Tap Create in the Select Soft Temperature Sensor module and click Next.
-
Select multiple sensors you need to use, then choose to apply either the average value or extreme value for data calculation.
-
Select a hub (the default recommended option is preferred) to complete the setup.
The virtual sensor also appears as its own standalone device inside the Aqara app, allowing users to rename and manage it independently.
Third party matter sensors supported
One of the more notable additions is support for third party Matter sensors. This means users are no longer restricted to Aqara branded sensors and can combine compatible Matter devices from different manufacturers into a unified setup. Aqara says this helps reduce compatibility issues and avoids older sensors becoming obsolete simply because they come from different ecosystems. However, Aqara notes that third party Matter sensors must first be added into the Aqara app through a Matter bridge before they can be used with the new virtual sensor feature. So devices added directly to Apple Home will not be available.
Aqara has also confirmed that additional devices across its ecosystem will gain support for the virtual sensor feature in future updates, suggesting this could become a broader foundation for more advanced environmental automations within Apple Home and Matter based smart homes.
