SwitchBot Lock Vision Series Introduces 3D structured light facial recognition.

SwitchBot has announced the Lock Vision Series, the world’s first deadbolt smart lock to use 3D structured light facial recognition. The smart lock will support Matter and is under certification for full Apple Home support, including Home Key.

Rather than relying on simple cameras or flat image matching, the Lock Vision Series projects thousands of infrared points onto a user’s face to build a precise three dimensional facial map. This allows the lock to understand depth, distance, and facial structure with millimetre level accuracy, enabling fast and intentional unlocking that is far harder to fool than traditional visual systems.

According to SwitchBot, the system unlocks in under one second and maintains a false recognition rate of less than 0.0001 percent. Recognition remains reliable even when the user is wearing glasses, a hat, makeup, or has changed their hairstyle. Crucially, the system also includes 3D liveness detection, preventing spoofing attempts using photos or videos. All biometric data is stored locally on the device rather than in the cloud.

Expanding Biometrics With Palm Vein Recognition

Alongside facial recognition, SwitchBot is expanding biometric access even further with the Lock Vision Pro. This model adds contactless palm vein recognition as an alternative unlocking method.

Using near infrared sensing, the lock reads the internal vascular patterns inside the palm rather than surface features. This allows the door to unlock even when hands are slightly wet, dirty, or when conditions are not ideal for fingerprint recognition. Because palm vein patterns sit beneath the skin, they are also extremely difficult to replicate, adding another layer of security.

Multiple Ways to Unlock

While facial and palm recognition may be the headline features, SwitchBot has not abandoned flexibility. The Lock Vision Series supports up to nineteen different unlock methods depending on configuration. These include facial recognition, fingerprints, palm prints on supported models, passcodes, NFC, geofencing, and control through the SwitchBot app.

This layered approach allows users to choose convenience, redundancy, or shared access depending on who is using the door and in what situation.

Power Management Designed for Real World Use

The Lock Vision Series uses a DualPower and DualBackup system designed to keep the lock operational even in worst case scenarios. At the core of DualPower is a 10,000 milliamp hour rechargeable battery capable of running the lock for up to six months on a single charge under normal use. Alongside this is a CR123A battery that can power the lock for up to five years in standby, providing up to five hundred emergency unlocks if the main battery is depleted. In addition, a Type C port is built directly into the surface of the keypad, allowing the lock to be temporarily powered from an external battery pack in an emergency.

To extend battery life further, the lock includes millimetre wave radar that allows the system to remain idle until someone approaches. Rather than running continuously, the device only activates when needed.

Power status can be checked at any time in the SwitchBot app, with smart alerts sent when battery levels drop. The lock also provides audible warnings locally, ensuring users are not caught out unexpectedly.

Matter Over WiFi and Apple Home Integration

Connectivity is handled via Matter over WiFi, allowing the Lock Vision Series to connect directly to supported smart home platforms without requiring a dedicated hub. For Apple users, this means direct integration with Apple Home, enabling remote monitoring, control, and voice commands through Siri.

The smart lock will support Matter and is under certification process for native Apple Home support, including Home Key.

Pricing and availability is not yet available for Lock Vision Series
