LG has announced that it will add support for Apple’s TV app to its webOS smart TV’s. This means that owners of LG smart TV models from 2018, 2019 and 2020 will access Apple TV+ without using an Apple TV or other streaming accessory.
With the Apple TV app, LG TV users can stream Apple TV+, view their Apple TV Channels, access their existing iTunes video library. They will also be able to buy and rent new films and TV shows from iTunes.
The Apple TV app was available from launch day for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and recent Samsung TVs. The app is pre-installed in newer iPhone, iPad, and on devices running macOS Catalina or later. The Apple TV+ the service is $4.99/£4.99 per month after a seven-day free trial. But if you buy selected Apple devices, you get 12 months free.
While this will be good news of LG TV owners from previous years, the decision by LG not to include HomeKit support for 2018 models still annoys users. This is despite an online petition receiving significant attention, LG has not gone back on its decision.
Besides this news and before CES 2020, the company announced the LG’s 2020 line up of TVs includes support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support. The 2020 LG lineup includes 8K TVs ranging from 65 inches to 88 inches, and you can find all the details on that can be found here.
